Carlsbad California Vacation Tips

Carlsbad California is a charming, chic community on the ocean just north of California’s most beautiful city, San Diego. It offers something for everyone, from luxury resorts to unspoiled coastal lagoons. Runners from all over the world participate in Carlsbad’s annual marathon that winds through this picturesque beach town along the Pacific coastline.

The North County beach communities include Solana Beach, Encinitas, Cardiff By The Sea and Carlsbad. Each community is offers magnificent ocean views and cooling sea breezes.

The Lost City of Atlantis was re-created at Sea Life Aquarium at Legoland California. Here you will see a 175,000 gallon ocean aquarium including a 9-foot-tall, 1600 pound statue of Poseidon, unusual sea creatures and an eight foot Lego submarine and diver made of tens of thousands of Lego blocks. It’s designed to be a child’s first interactive guide to the life of the sea, combining active, hands-on learning with interesting educational talks.

The Carlsbad coast runs six miles and is home to two popular beaches: Carlsbad State Beach and South Ponto Beach. The beaches are wide and sandy in many places. The shoreline is interrupted only by a few water inlets. Carlsbad beaches are mostly hidden below ocean bluffs, away from busy Highway 101 and Carlsbad residential areas, offering a peaceful atmosphere.

The Flower Fields are famous for their beauty. Tour them from March to early May where for a small fee you can walk through acres and acres of brightly colored fields of flowers on a hill overlooking the Pacific Ocean. It’s a sight to behold. At the Flower Fields, Giant Tecolote Ranunculus have been refined for generations to produce exceptionally large blooms and lots of them. Available in a rainbow of lavish hues, each flower is packed with hundreds of silky petals. You’d be hard pressed to find a fuller, more lush blossom anywhere.

Carlsbad hotels and inns are represented by all the big chains including the Carlsbad Hilton. Regal Eight, Carlsbad Howard Johnson’s and Carlsbad Inn. You’ll also find romantic bed and breakfasts in Carlsbad.

Carlsbad has its share of upscale resorts as well. These resorts are wonderful, albeit expensive. Vacation condos available for weekly vacation rentals also have a resort flavor.
