One of the greatest joys is to have the opportunity to see someone grow and change as a result of education. This is why teaching English as a foreign language or TEFL is so rewarding.
The work is rewarding and offers such a variety that the challenge is pursued with enthusiasm on both the part of the teachers and the students. Cultures with varied accents coupled with the trial of English pronunciation is best approached with a smile and expectation that common words will have uncommon sounds. With an open mind and sense of humor the crossing of boundaries dissipates with an educational bond.
The bond begins with the way teachers approach students. When the TEFL instructor greets with genuine cheer and energy the students will feel more at ease. True bonding must occur by cheerful greetings and taking the time to pace oneself. If a teacher exudes confidence the student is bound to desire the same. When driven by this challenge the student will take home what they learn and apply it right away. A new world opens up, allowing for more options for happiness.
Opportunities to travel and teach are plentiful. Many foreign countries employ TEFL teachers and may offer incentives for taking that leap. If a person loves to travel and live in the midst of varied cultures then this is definitely an option. It is bound to be fun to teach while experiencing the cultures of students.
A persons livelihood is enhanced when they get to the point of being able to communicate freely with employers and co-workers. The great news that a student has reached a goal is met with gratitude.
It is important to not teach so much as speak with students. The emphasis of speaking only English in the class is important. Often students in TEFL classes try to merge the new English words with their own language. It is a difficult but possible task to work on this obstacle. When barriers are broken there is no greater joy than knowing another inroad have been made.
Doing part time work and full time work in the regular classroom also helps the budget. As there are often volunteers who work in the field there are often paid opportunities. Reports from many TEFL teachers express amazing confidence renewal and happiness for this wonderful opportunity.
